We love to support our local communities and were happy to help out when Cllr Leanne Lloyd-Tollman asked if we could replace some kitchen units for autism charity, Hope GB, which is based in Thornhill Community Centre.
The kitchen in the space Hope GB uses was old and worn out, so some of our colleagues and a team from our contractors, Torfaen Maintenance Services (TMS), got to work on installing not just new units but also a worktop, sink unit, separate basin, tiling, two additional cupboards, stable door. They also decorated the area.
Funding came via our community benefits scheme – where contractors working for us commit to complete an agreed project or agree to provide financial aid to a fund that will be used for local community projects.
Sarah Robinson, who leads Hope GB, said: “We were delighted when Bron Afon agreed and arranged for TMS to install a full kitchen ready for our grand opening on 3 February. It was short notice but they did it on time and to such a high standard.
“I would like to say a huge thank you to Bron Afon and to TMS, who were fantastic to deal with. The team have done a wonderful job on the kitchen, which is already making a big difference to our staff, who serve parents and carers during our sessions.”

“It’s surely made such a difference to me”: a customer tells us about moving into a carpeted home
We believe that everyone should have a place they are proud to call home – one that’s safe, warm and comfortable. It’s one of the reasons we have been fitting carpets in our empty properties, ready for when new customers move in.
We are really grateful to Jess, one of our customers, for recording this short video to explain how having a carpeted home has made a big difference to her and her family.
