Bron Afon is a not-for-profit organisation but we are also a Community Mutual which gives us a special structure on how we are run.
Simply it means we are owned by our members who are given a shareholder certificate to show they ‘own’ part of Bron Afon. The ownership is not about a monetary share, but about the opportunity to have a say in how we run our services and help us plan for the future.
As a Community Mutual we wanted to improve how individuals and communities have a say on any Bron Afon decisions that affect them. We have worked with staff and current members and this led to our new approach which is called ‘The Feeling is Mutual’. It’s all about working together using the same aims. Mutual respect. Mutual support. Mutual learning. Mutual goals.
Getting involved isn’t all about sitting in meetings. Our new approach means we can talk to you on the phone, through email or on social media as well. We may also hold an event in your community so you don’t have to travel to our office.
We will be available in evenings and weekends to make sure that everyone has an opportunity to have their say at times that suit them.
The important thing is we will be making an extra effort to get people involved who haven’t been able to help us because of work or family commitments.
The five best things about being involved
-You will feel fantastic as you see your ideas make a difference to your community. Yes, that’s a bold statement from us but we are pretty confident that seeing the area you live in become a better place to live will make you feel happier.
-It takes one minute to join! Yes, it really is that easy. You can fill in your details and interests here. If you can’t get online call us on 0800 111 4242 and we will pop a form in the post.
-You will learn new skills and get free training (if you want to).
-We will only ask you to help with the things that you are interested in. If you care about something you will care more about making it better. So you will only hear from us when it’s about something you have told us you are interested in.
-You choose how much time you want to volunteer and we will always be happy to see you.
If you have any queries about how you can get involved and make a difference please give us a call on 0800 111 4242 / 01633 620 111
