Carl Sargeant, the Cabinet Secretary for Communities and Children, visited our building site in Pontymoile yesterday to see how we are creating jobs and building new homes.
Thirty-nine homes are being built. Twenty-eight of them will be available for rent and 11 of them be offered for sale through Torfaen’s low-cost home ownership scheme Help2Own.
He spoke to Richard Brown and Kelly Smith- two residents who took part in courses through Bron Afon's That Works Training Academy. We then arranged an interview for Richard with Sennybridge, our contractor, and he was successful.
Kelly joined our Decorating That Works course and this led to an interview with another of our contractors R&M Williams. She started worked on our site at Clarence Street. She impressed them so much she was then offered a full-time job to work on one of their sites in Newport.
During the visit the minister also spoke to Narika Bowen who is a member of our GoGirls project.
The homes are due to be ready in January 2018.
