The safety and wellbeing of all our customers is our priority.
It is why every one of our high-rise blocks is fitted with a sprinkler system, which is designed to detect and put out fire.
Recently, there was a chip pan fire in a flat in one of our high-rise blocks. The sprinkler system kicked in successfully and the fire was extinguished within minutes. This meant when the Fire Service arrived on site, they did not have to do any further firefighting.
Thankfully, no one needed medical attention.
BAFSA, the British Automatic Fire Sprinkler Association, have written about the incident and the importance of sprinklers in high-rise blocks here.
Catherine Love, our Executive Director of Operations and Deputy Chief Executive, said,
“The safety of our customers is always our absolute priority and I’m grateful that nobody was hurt and there was minimal damage to the tenant’s home and belongings.
“The timely action of the sprinkler system helped stop the spread of the fire enabled firefighters to bring it under control quickly. The sprinkler system adds an extra layer of protection, reducing the risk of injury and ensuring our customers and the public are safe.”
We’ve had a higher number of chip pan fires than usual in the past year. The main reason is because they have been left unattended – and that’s a huge fire safety risk.
